5 Best Events Hosted in South Milwaukee
As much as I love my day-to-day routine in South Milwaukee, the big, festive events are where I really thrive. What can I say? I’m an extrovert. And I love the people of South Milwaukee.
Although there’s always something fun going on in the community, these are a few of the biggest (and best) events hosted by South Milwaukee:
1. South Milwaukee Downtown Market
From May to October, the South Milwaukee Downtown Market is the place to be for good old-fashioned family fun! The market is located at the Bycyrus Commons in the heart of downtown. South Milwaukee’s streets are dazzled with fresh produce, live music, arts and crafts, and an array of delicious food. (Don’t forget to come hungry!)
On top of the market’s alluring vendors and exquisite artists, they also host a summer concert series where you can jam out to a different live musician every week! You might even see me shredding the guitar up on stage.
In my opinion, the best part of the market is spending time with all of my fellow South Milwaukeeans. When you’re surrounded by great neighbors in a great neighborhood, it’s bound to be a Sam-tastic time!
2. Christmas at the Commons
For this furry Sasquatch, winter is the most wonderful time of the year! What really gets me into the holiday spirit is seeing the community come together at Christmas at the Commons. This event includes a Christmas tree lighting, local live musicians, and, my personal favorite, meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus!
3. Crusherfest
World-renowned professional wrestler, Reggie “Da Crusher” Lisowski, was a lifelong resident of South Milwaukee! His success and determination made our community proud, resulting in a life-size statue of him in the heart of downtown! South Milwaukee hosts Crusherfest every summer in his honor—including live professional wrestling, a lineup of bands, and a barbeque!
4. Family Spooktacular
When the fall season approaches, it’s time to grab your Halloween costume and get pumped for the spookiest night of the year! The South Milwaukee Family Spooktacular is one of my favorite events because it has jack-o-lantern lighting celebrations, face painting, and Halloween movies (with free popcorn!) You can even spot me handing out my favorite candy!
5. South Milwaukee Heritage Days
Every July, the City of South Milwaukee hosts Heritage Days—a week of fun festivities that celebrate our community. This past year, I had the absolute best time parading through the city, playing carnival games, and dancing around town with all of my Sam Fans. South Milwaukee is proud to keep this local tradition alive, and I am honored to be a part of it!
