Do you feel that? The fall breeze, the crisp autumn air? That could only mean one thing: it’s officially spooky season. And there’s no place I’d rather spend it than South Milwaukee! These are some of my favorite fall activities to get pumped for the cooler weather:

1. Meet me at the Spooktacular!

Grab your best costume and get excited for the spookiest night of the year! Meet me at the South Milwaukee Senior Center on October 19th from 4-8 pm for food, flicks, and festivities. Make sure to bring a carved pumpkin for a special illumination celebration, and stay for a viewing of Hocus Pocus (with free popcorn)! For more information, check out the Family Spooktacular flyer!

2. Treat Yourself at Bakehouse23

Visit South Milwaukee’s very own bakehouse, where autumn-inspired sweet treats are aplenty. My personal fall favorites? The pumpkin bread, apple pie bars, and pecan sticky buns—baked fresh every morning.

3. Trek ‘n Treat at Grant Park

Take a walk along the beautiful Seven Bridges ravine trail, where various stations will offer your kiddos a treat, along with a fun fact about the nature surrounding them! Brought to you by the Friends of Grant Park, check out the Trek ‘n Treat on Sunday, October 6th from 1-4 pm.

4. Get Creative with Your Costume

Halloween is right around the corner—and so is the countdown to find a costume. If you’re in the mood for a one-of-a-kind look this year, DIY your costume with some fun, unique items from local stores and boutiques. My favorite spots to find some retro, spooky, or vintage pieces are Omen Subculture Clothing & Accessories, Hollyville, or Dupree’s Vintage.

5. Visit a Fall Craft and Bake Fair

Shop fall-inspired crafts and delicious baked goods for a good cause! On October 12th from 10am – 3pm, visit Knights of Columbus to support some fellow furry friends. All proceeds of this fair benefit the cats and kittens of Second Hand Purrs Cat Shelter.

6. Fulfill your Pumpkin Spice Fantasy

There’s nothing better than a cozy, warm beverage on a cool fall day. Indulge in an autumn-inspired drink at South Milwaukee’s Better Together Cafe. Their current fall specials—Pumpkin White Mocha (with pumpkin cold foam), Bourbon Caramel Latte (with maple cold foam), Chaider, or Green Apple Refresher—are all Sam Approved!

Go Trick-or-Treating!

Go out and have some good old-fashioned Hallween fun in the neighborhood on October 26th from 5-7pm. Grab your friends, collect some candy, and have a safe, happy Halloween!
